Delhi Police denies excessive use of force during protest: '5k cops tried to manage 30k+ protesters'
India, Aug. 18 -- The Delhi Police has denied allegations of excessive use of force against student protesters, saying more than 5,000 police personnel were deployed to manage a crowd of over 30,000 people during the protest.
The police said the situation turned violent after sections of the crowd allegedly breached multiple layers of barricades and attempted to move towards Parliament, Live Law reported.
The police made the submissions in a counter-affidavit filed before the Supreme Court by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma, the report added.
