India, Aug. 14 -- A 14-year-old Class 8 student was trapped under a car and dragged for nearly 20-25 metres in Kanpur's Kalyanpur area before the driver stopped, left him by the roadside and fled, police said. The alleged driver, Ashish Diwakar, was arrested on Thursday after public uproar.

The incident took place around 6 pm on Wednesday near Awas Vikas-1, when the boy, was riding his bicycle close to his home. CCTV footage shows a car approaching the boy and hitting him. The boy appears to get trapped beneath the vehicle as the car continues moving before stopping further ahead.

According to police, the driver then got out, moved the injured boy to the side of the road and fled on foot. He was taken to hospital in serious condition. ...
