Chandigarh, Nov. 8 -- The Centre has extended the Punjab Police and Correctional Services Act, 2006, to the Union territory (UT) of Chandigarh, paving the way for the transfer of prisoners between states and UTs and introducing changes in the functioning of the prison administration. The Union home ministry issued a notification on Friday under Section 87 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, extending the Punjab legislation to Chandigarh with certain modifications. The changes have been made to align the provisions with Chandigarh's administrative structure, replacing references to the Punjab government with the appropriate UT authorities.
