India, Aug. 11 -- Hepatitis simply means inflammation of the liver, and that is not just limited to adult individuals. In an interaction with HT Lifestyle, paediatrician Dr Nakul Pathak shared that liver inflammation in children can have several causes.
While the hepatitis viruses A to E are common causes, others such as Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus and adenovirus can also affect the liver. Autoimmune disease, certain inherited or metabolic conditions, medicines and toxins belong on the list as well.
"In India, hepatitis A is identified as the leading cause of acute viral hepatitis, ahead of hepatitis E and hepatitis B," noted Dr Pathak.
