CAG flags guj's jal jeevan claim, finds Rs.72.97 cr excess payments
Ahmedabad, Sept. 12 -- The CAG has flagged discrepancies in Gujarat's claim of 100% functional household tap connection coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission and found Rs.72.97 crore in excess payments to contractors.
Gujarat had declared all 91.18 lakh rural households covered by October 2022. However, District Annual Action Plans showed 14.84 lakh households pending connections as of April 2024. "Due to this contradiction, Audit could not vouch for the reliability of the data," the CAG said.
The audit also found that while all 18,024 villages were reported Har Ghar Jal compliant, only 16,920 (93.87%) had certification by August 2025.
