New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- The ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Wednesday notified the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2026, stating that the law will come into effect from October 1. The amended law was passed by Parliament in the monsoon session. It seeks to make delayed registration of births and deaths more stringent by requiring an order from a judicial magistrate (first class) for registrations made more than two years after the event.
