Bengal cm kicks off campaign from darjeeling
Kolkata, March 25 -- West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday visited a hamlet in the Himalayan foothills in Darjeeling district before launching the Trinamool Congress's campaign for the two-phase assembly elections. Meanwhile, the party's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, addressed voters on an island off the Bay of Bengal.
Banerjee, who will formally kick off the TMC's rally on Wednesday from north Bengal, visited a 58-year-old church in the tea garden area of Chalsa and met voters on the way.
"Bengal is home to people from all faiths, castes and creeds. I am pleased to be amongst you," Banerjee told a small gathering inside the St Lucy church at Batabari.
