Tech layoffs in 2026 are rising, but the AI skills gap is not disappearing
India, Sept. 8 -- Technology companies are still cutting jobs in 2026, but that does not mean they have stopped looking for talent.
TrueUp, a private platform that tracks technology workforce reductions through company announcements, regulatory filings, and media reports, showed 186,421 people affected across 584 layoff events when its tracker was checked on September 7.
The figure is dynamic and should not be treated as an official global employment statistic. But it captures one side of a larger shift taking place across the technology industry.
