India, Sept. 22 -- The US-based coffee company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a technology hub in Chennai. The centre is expected to create around 800 technology roles, with hiring to be phased according to business requirements.

For Starbucks, the move is also about bringing more technology work inside the organisation. Anand Varadarajan, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Starbucks, said the Chennai hub will work with the company's technology and business teams in the US and other markets.

The company has also said that the new centre will allow it to gradually bring work currently handled by third-party service providers in-house.
