India, Aug. 6 -- Long before cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and hyperscale data centres began dominating India's technology conversation, a small group of engineers and advocates was working to make public Internet access possible.

Two members of that early community, Neeraj Sonker and Suchit Nanda, have now been recognised among the inaugural recipients of the National Internet Enablers Awards.

The awards were presented on July 26, 2026, during the 44th South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG 44) meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal. Organised through a partnership between the APNIC Foundation and SANOG, the initiative honoured six people from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Nepal.
