India, April 2 -- India is said to be planning a $11 billion fund to boost domestic chipmaking. Dr. Rohin Y, Founder-CEO, LightSpeed Photonics, tells us more in this exclusive. Excerpts:
DQ: What does this development means for India's semiconductor ecosystem?
Dr. Rohin Y: This is a welcome move. and it is an increased responsibility on fund disbursal agencies to ensure it goes to worthy folks that builds true Indian capability. Usually, in semiconductors (at least, at the prototype and startup stage), the big money goes to EDA tool makers, fabs, and further to the semiconductor equipment manufacturers.
Since, none of these facilities exist in India, major chunk of this funding goes out of India for these. So, it is all the more import...
