India, July 15 -- Sometimes, the future of AI begins with an empty space on a kirana-store shelf. A photograph of a partially stocked shelf became one of the clearest illustrations of Google's AI ambitions in India.

During a demonstration at Google I/O Connect India 2026 in Bengaluru, Gemini analysed the image, identified the missing product, estimated how many packets were needed and generated a structured order for the supplier. It then drafted a short WhatsApp message requesting delivery the following day.

There was no complex interface or elaborate enterprise workflow. The entire process began with an image of a shelf and a natural-language instruction.
