FIFA World Cup 2026 draws 13,000 themed domains as cyber scams surge
India, June 12 -- As the FIFA World Cup 2026 gets under way, cybercriminals are seeking to exploit the global attention surrounding the tournament.
Months before the first match, attackers had begun creating fake ticket websites, fraudulent recruitment portals, malicious applications, impersonation accounts, and phishing infrastructure designed to target fans, jobseekers, and organisations connected to the event.
Fortinet's FIFA World Cup 2026 Cyberthreat Landscape Report, produced by FortiGuard Labs, indicates that this is not merely a warning about possible future attacks. Much of the infrastructure required to run these scams is already in place.
