India, Sept. 23 -- India's semiconductor journey reflects a transition from decades of unrealized manufacturing ambition to a structured effort to build a globally competitive and self-reliant ecosystem.

While India became a global center for chip design and engineering talent, it remained dependent on imports of applications (such as electronics, automobiles and equipment), functions of which are powered and enabled by the very chip designed by the talent within the country.

Over time, India has developed manufacturing capability of end-use electronics, equipment, automobiles and other applications, with back integration of sub-components, parts and materials, but self-reliance in developing and manufacturing core of these applications...
