India, Sept. 17 -- For much of the rise of Indian IT services, growth had a fairly clear trajectory. Large multi-year global contracts created demand for more engineers, offshore delivery brought a cost advantage, and revenue scaled substantially with people, effort and time.

Artificial intelligence is beginning to loosen those connections. The arithmetic is changing; so is the equation.

The change is not simply about developers completing tasks faster. It reaches into how projects are priced, how delivery teams are assembled, what engineers actually do, how talent structures are shaped and where a services company creates value for a client.
