India, June 12 -- The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and its growing presence across industries and everyday life, has raised concerns about its energy requirements. Large data centres operated by hyperscalers can consume up to 100 MW of power, comparable to the energy needs of a small city.

This high level of energy consumption is placing increasing pressure on existing power-generation and transmission infrastructure.

Data centres already consume an estimated 1.5-2% of global electricity and account for roughly 1% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
