AI chipflation spreads to general-purpose semiconductors
India, July 29 -- 'Chipflation' triggered by the expansion of investment in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers is spreading beyond memory chips to general-purpose semiconductors such as display driver ICs (DDI) and power management ICs (PMIC).
As foundry price hikes extend to mature processes, the cost burden on the smartphone, home appliance, automobile, and display industries is expected to grow further.
According to industry sources on July 24, the world's largest foundry company TSMC is known to increase semiconductor production prices by up to 10% starting next year.
