India, Aug. 13 -- Hero MotoCorp could be exploring a more rugged take on the Splendor, according to newly filed design patents in India. The patented motorcycle features several changes that set it apart from the familiar commuter, including a raised front fender, knuckle guards, rubber fork gaiters and a different seat design. A second patented version follows a more conventional approach and does not get some of these visual changes.

There is no confirmation from Hero MotoCorp that either design will enter production, but the filings offer an early look at how the company could adapt the Splendor platform for riders dealing with rougher roads and rural terrain.
