Bangladesh, July 23 -- The latest tragedy off the coast of Mauritania is another heartbreaking reminder that the Atlantic Ocean has become one of the worlds deadliest migration routes. According to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR), at least 144 migrants are dead or missing after separate maritime incidents, including a boat that departed from the Gambian village of Bafuloto bound for Spains Canary Islands. Only 38 people survived after spending nearly 25 harrowing days stranded in the Atlantic. Behind those grim statistics lie shattered families, broken dreams and a humanitarian crisis that continues to unfold largely beyond the worlds attention.
