Lithuania reviews Belarusian businessmans residency after data security investigation
Bangladesh, July 31 -- Lithuanian authorities have launched a review of the legal status of a Belarusian businessman following an investigative report that raised concerns over the development and data-handling practices of several widely used mobile applications marketed as Lithuanian products.
The move comes after a joint investigation by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and the Belarusian investigative outlet Buro alleged that applications linked to Belarusian entrepreneur Andrei Shimanovich were developed and maintained in Belarus and, in some cases, transmitted user data to servers or services located in Belarus and Russia.
