Seventeen years after Bitcoin's launch, that ambition looks increasingly complicated.
Bitcoin has grown from an obscure experiment discussed on internet forums into a global financial asset worth trillions of dollars, traded across exchanges around the world and increasingly embraced by institutional investors.
