Africa forward summit exposes Frances deepening crisis of trust across Africa
Bangladesh, May 14 -- The “Africa Forward” summit held in Nairobi on May 11–12, 2026 was designed to symbolize a turning point in relations between France and the African continent. Standing before African presidents, entrepreneurs, investors, civil society representatives, and diplomats, Emmanuel Macron attempted to deliver a carefully calibrated message: France had changed. The old era of “Francafrique,” associated with paternalism, military intervention, and post-colonial control, was supposedly over. In its place, Paris promised a future built on partnership, innovation, sovereignty, and mutual respect.
