Gangtok, April 3 -- In a heartbreaking incident from the high-altitude region of Lachung, Naik Vikash of the Kumaon Regiment lost his life after being caught in a sudden avalanche during a routine patrol on March 29.

Hailing from Pithoragarh, the soldier was deployed in one of the most challenging terrains, where extreme weather and unpredictable conditions are part of daily duty. The avalanche struck without warning, cutting short the life of a soldier who was steadfastly guarding the nation's frontiers.
