India, Oct. 20 -- Finnish connectivity company Wirepas has deployed its radio frequency (RF) mesh technology in approximately 700,000 smart electricity meters in Himachal Pradesh, as the state's smart metering rollout expands across mountainous and densely populated areas.

The deployment highlights the communication challenges involved in connecting smart meters across the state, where steep terrain, remote villages and closely packed urban buildings can affect network coverage and reliability. Wirepas said its technology supports more than 12 million smart meters across India.
