India, April 1 -- In a recent test, Vodafone successfully completed a live video call from a location with no cellular coverage, using satellite connectivity. Sabrina Casalta received the call in Dublin from Clare Island, an area known for intermittent or non-existent network coverage. Notably, the call was made using a standard smartphone rather than specialised equipment.
Mobile connectivity has traditionally relied on terrestrial infrastructure such as cell towers, fibre backhaul and spectrum-based networks. While this model has enabled widespread coverage in urban and semi-urban regions, it has struggled to reach geographically challenging or sparsely populated areas.
