Viasat and WiSig test India-built 5G satellite IoT chipset for global use
India, June 15 -- India's push to develop homegrown semiconductor and telecom technologies is moving into satellite communications, with Hyderabad-based deep-tech company WiSig Networks beginning tests of its 5G satellite Internet of Things (IoT) chipset with global satellite operator Viasat.
The collaboration marks an important step for India's emerging semiconductor ecosystem, as a domestically developed communication chip undergoes evaluation for use on an international satellite network.
The chipset and module, developed by WiSig Networks and based on technology originating at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad), are currently being tested at Viasat's laboratories in the United Kingdom. The companies are as...
