India, March 24 -- India's telecom sector remains one of the most competitive and capital-intensive industries, shaped by price wars, regulatory dues and relentless network investments. While private operators such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have strengthened their market positions, two struggling players, Vodafone Idea (VI) and BSNL, continue to report losses. Yet, a closer look reveals that the scale and nature of their financial stress are markedly different.

At a surface level, Vodafone Idea appears significantly larger. The company reports revenues of around Rs 44,000 crore and serves nearly 19.8 crore subscribers, compared to BSNL's revenue of Rs 20,841 crore. However, headline size masks deeper structural challenges.
