India, Oct. 4 -- The United States has announced plans to establish a four-star Autonomous Warfare Command to expand the use of autonomous and robotic systems across its armed forces, along with measures to speed up how such technologies are developed, acquired and deployed.

The Pentagon plans to establish the Autonomous Warfare Command (AutoWarCom) by 1 October 2027. A four-star command is headed by a general or admiral holding the US military's highest regular active-duty rank.

In a parallel move, the Department of War launched Project Meridian, a 120-day study to identify future warfighting technologies, capability gaps, and new operational concepts.
