TRAI data shows ARPU growth, but India's tariff debate is far from over
India, June 25 -- India's telecom sector is generating more revenue from each mobile subscriber than it did a year ago, yet the country's leading private operators continue to argue that current pricing levels are inadequate to sustain future network investments.
The latest performance indicators released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) show that the industry's wireless Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) rose to Rs 196.04 in the quarter ended March 2026, up from Rs 194.57 in the previous quarter and 7.15% higher than a year earlier. The figures point to a sector that is steadily improving its monetisation capabilities following multiple rounds of tariff increases over the past two years.
