TRAI asks Truecaller to replace blocked tag with DND choice
India, July 20 -- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked caller identification platform Truecaller to stop displaying a "frequently blocked" label for calls originating from designated commercial communication number series, arguing that the tag may mislead consumers and undermine the country's regulated anti-spam framework.
Instead, the regulator has suggested that the application should inform users that they can manage unwanted commercial communications through TRAI's official Do Not Disturb (DND) preference management mechanism. The move reflects the regulator's focus on improving consumer awareness rather than encouraging blanket blocking of legitimate business calls.
