India, Sept. 17 -- Reliance Industries is building a large-scale AI compute platform in Jamnagar, Gujarat, positioning it as part of India's sovereign AI infrastructure. But the technology stack that will sit on top of that infrastructure tells a more complicated story.

The compute will be deployed in India, powered by Reliance's renewable energy assets and connected to its domestic digital infrastructure. At the same time, some of the most prominent AI models and services linked to the ecosystem come from US technology companies, including Google and Meta.

That distinction is becoming increasingly important as India attempts to build AI capabilities that reduce dependence on overseas infrastructure and technology.
