Parliament panel seeks BharatNet audit over rollout gaps
India, Aug. 10 -- The parliamentary committee on Communications and Information Technology in India has called for a state-wise and implementation model-wise performance audit of BharatNet, saying its rollout remains uneven despite substantial infrastructure creation and funding for the rural broadband programme.
The Standing Committee made the recommendation in its 32nd Report on schemes and projects under Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), presented to the Lok Sabha on 6 August 2026. The committee said substantial infrastructure had been created, but the number of operational gram panchayats (GPs) remained below envisaged universal coverage, with implementation varying across states and models.
