India, March 16 -- A major artificial intelligence infrastructure agreement between Meta Platforms and European AI cloud provider Nebius Group has highlighted a growing tension across the technology industry: massive spending on AI infrastructure alongside the possibility of large-scale workforce reductions.

According to reports, Meta is evaluating the possibility of reducing its workforce by as much as 20 per cent as it prepares for an unprecedented wave of investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The potential restructuring comes as the company plans to spend roughly USD 135 billion on AI-related infrastructure in 2026, part of a broader effort to secure the computing power needed for advanced generative AI systems.
