India, July 31 -- India has signed an agreement to establish its first dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, creating an integrated base for telecom equipment manufacturing, research and development, testing and related technologies.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Madhya Pradesh government signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on July 30, with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav present. The agreement marks the formal start of a project that the government expects to use to deepen domestic telecom manufacturing and strengthen the country's supply chain.
