A CCTV camera does not simply watch. It captures, encodes, and transmits-quietly extending the boundary of a network into physical space. In a connected environment, visibility is no longer local. It is persistent, transferable, and, if compromised, permeable in ways that are not immediately apparent.

India's decision to enforce security certification for CCTV systems from 1 April 2026 is therefore necessary.

Networked cameras are no longer passive devices. They are data nodes embedded across cities, transport corridors, military perimeters, and homes. When compromised, they do not just leak footage; they expose patterns, movements, and intent.
