India, Aug. 18 -- India has not just become South Asia's fastest mobile internet market, it has done so by turning its biggest challenge, scale, into its strongest advantage. With average mobile download speeds reaching 106 Mbps in 2026, the country's 5G expansion has fundamentally reshaped how connectivity performance is measured in the region.

But the story is not simply about India "leading" in speed. It is about a structural shift, mobile networks are now outpacing fixed broadband in driving digital access, and India is at the center of that transition.
