India, Sept. 14 -- India's digital economy is expanding rapidly. Telecom operators are extending 5G coverage, data centres are multiplying across major cities, and AI services are driving demand for computing power. Yet the physical systems supporting this growth remain less protected than the cloud platforms, applications, and enterprise networks built on top of them.

A campaign against US critical infrastructure illustrates why this matters. In July 2026, US authorities warned that cyber actors assessed to be affiliated with Iran and linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were exploiting internet-connected programmable logic controllers used in government facilities, water and wastewater systems, and energy installations.
