India, Aug. 24 -- The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has begun the formal process to dissolve the Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the apex decision-making body that has played a central role in India's telecom policy framework for nearly four decades.

The move, which still requires approval from the Union Cabinet, follows a government review of the commission's role and comes amid concerns over overlapping responsibilities, vacant senior positions and delays in decision-making.
