India, Oct. 29 -- Bharti Airtel recorded a higher month-on-month growth rate in its 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) subscriber base than Reliance Jio in September 2026, although Jio added more subscribers and retained a significantly larger customer base, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on 27 October 2026.

Despite Airtel's higher percentage growth, Jio continued to lead the 5G FWA segment in absolute subscriber numbers. Its base of 9.52 million was more than twice Airtel's 4.09 million at the end of September.

Across the industry, India's 5G FWA subscriber base increased from 13.45 million in August to 13.61 million in September, adding approximately 151,740 connections during the month. Thi...
