India, April 2 -- Bharti Airtel has reached a customer base of 650 million, making it the second-largest telecom operator in the world by mobile subscribers, according to the company. In an exchange filing dated 2 April 2026, Airtel cited data from GSMA Intelligence to support this ranking.

The company operates across India and several African markets, with subscriber growth contributing to its global position.

Commenting on the development, Gopal Vittal said the scale of operations places a responsibility on the company to maintain service quality. He noted that Airtel continues to invest in network infrastructure and technologies aimed at improving reliability, security and customer experience.
