Singapore, March 19 -- The fully automated regional and global distribution centre World Gateway II has been officially inaugurated in Singapore to meet rising global consumer demand and the rapid growth of e-commerce. The facility is the second such centre operated by shipping giant Maersk, which views Asia as an increasingly central hub of global trade. Speaking at the inauguration of the facility on March 18, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong noted that Maersk's expansion of its logistics operations in Singapore reinforces Singapore's role as an intermodal logistics hub.
