Da Nang restructures fishing fleet for sustainable fisheries, IUU 'yellow card' lifting
Da Nang, July 2 -- Da Nang is accelerating the restructuring of its fishing fleet by phasing out small inshore vessels, expanding its offshore fleet and strengthening measures against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as part of efforts to build a modern, sustainable and responsible fisheries sector.
The central city is encouraging fishermen to invest in larger, better-equipped vessels capable of longer offshore voyages while improving compliance with fisheries regulations. Local authorities are also facilitating access to preferential loans for vessel construction and upgrades.
