India, Aug. 29 -- The establishment of the LANTIRN system, which will provide the Air Force with night operation capability, was first started in the 161st Squadron in 1993. On 1 July 1994, LANTIRN training was completed, and the 161st Squadron became the first LANTIRN capable Turkish Squadron. TURAF is the first user of the LANTIRN system outside the United States. With the LANTIRN modernisation, the 161st Squadron, whose call sign was Kartal (Eagle), also adopted the call sign Yarasa (Bat). Thus, they began flying as Eagle during the day and Bat at night.
