India, Aug. 30 -- Gurung Hill was also a significant feature. It measured 3000 metres in length and 2000 metres in breadth. It is 5030 metres high. This feature was strategically important since it overlooked both the airstrip and the Spanggur Gap. On its northern flank is Black Top, which was occupied by the Chinese and had infantry on its reverse slope; they also had an artillery observation position on Black Top from which they could readily monitor Indian activity at Gurung Hill. The Hill is divided into two sections, one of which resembles a camel's back so it was called Camel's Back and the other a flat top known as a table top. 1/8 Gorkha Rifles deployed its Bravo company less a platoon at the Table Top and a platoon at Camel's Back....
