India, Oct. 2 -- The keel laying ceremony of conventional submarine Pr. 677 Lada for the Russian Navy was held recently. Rubin Design Bureau of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has developed the project, Admiralty shipyards of USC are building the submarine. The submarine is named Maloyaroslavets after a town in Kaluga region of Russia. The batch of conventional Lada class submarines is built to an improved design developed by Rubin in accordance with the lead boat Pr. 677 Saint-Petersburg operational evaluation results. The first improved design boat, Kronstadt, was commissioned by the Navy in 2024. The second one, Velikiye Luki, joined the Navy in 2025. Trials have proven high performance of these boats.
