India, Aug. 30 -- Following the spread of word of the Chinese operating tanks in the region, the Indian Army began to induct tanks to confront the Chinese threat. Lt Col Gurbachan Singh 'Butch' commanded 20 Lancers based in Ferozepur was chosen for the assignment, and two tank troops with Squadron HQs were transported to Chandigarh Air Base from whence the tanks were to be flown in recently inducted An-12 aircraft of the Indian Air Force's 44 Squadron. The trial to load tanks into aircraft began, however due to the weight and structure of the tanks, the first trial failed, damaging the aircraft.
