, Oct. 16 -- LEH: The Union Territory administration of Ladakh on Friday notified the creation of Sankoo as a new district, with its headquarters at Sankoo.

According to a notification issued by the Revenue Department, a copy of which lies with KNO, the new district has been created under Section 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, 1996, through S.O. 284 dated October 16, 2026.

The notification states that the newly created Sankoo district will comprise four tehsils-Sankoo, GM Pore, TSG and Taisuru-along with their respective revenue villages.

It further states that the jurisdiction of Kargil district has been modified by excluding the tehsils and revenue villages now included in Sankoo district.
