ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,746,277, issued on Sept. 29, was assigned to UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LAC (South Bend, Ind.).

"Dynamic-covalent hydrogels with glucose-specific and glucose-responsive diboronate crosslinking" was invented by Matthew Webber (South Bend, Ind.), Yuanhui Xiang (South Bend, Ind.) and Sijie Xian (South Bend, Ind.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein are di-phenylboronic acid (DiPBA) motifs that bind glucose with high affinity and improved specificity. The compounds can be used to prepare dynamic injectable materials with improved encapsulation and glucose-triggered release of insulin in vitro and in vivo."
