ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,590,314, issued on March 31, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).

"Expressing multiple genes from a single transcript in algae and plants" was invented by Sabeeha S. Merchant (Berkeley, Calif.), Sean David Gallaher (Berkeley, Calif.) and Jeffrey L. Moseley (Berkeley, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Multiple exogenous genes are expressed from a single transcript in algae and plants using engineered plant polycistronic loci."

The patent was filed on Dec. 13, 2022, under Application No. 18/065,615.
