ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,544,435, issued on Feb. 10, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).

"Neisserial surface protein a (NSPA) variants and methods of use thereof" was invented by Peter T. Beernink (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Dhaarini Raghunathan (Oakland, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Variant Neisserial surface protein A (NspA) with reduced binding to human factor H (FH) are provided. These variants are useful for eliciting antibodies that are bactericidal for at least one strain of N. meningitidis. Compositions comprising such proteins, and methods of use of such proteins are disclosed."
